Simply a great evenly played Game one in Redvers last night. Early on, Jordon Miller scored a nice one on assists from Kopeck and Kenton Miller making it 1-0 Rockets. 10 minutes in, Redvers net minder Cody Matthewson made three scintillating saves from close range. Redvers also rang a couple of posts and then with two to play, Sawchuk scored a poor one on a rare Rocket defensive zone lapse and it was 1-1 after one. With big Josh Elmes playing forward and screening Matthewson on the power play, Bud Holloway scored his patented off-wing Ovechin like slapper from the left circle making it 2-1 after two.
5 minutes into the final period, third liners Kenler and Lamotte assisted on a 6 inch tap in from Rocket crowd favourite Colby Potapinski and the game was knotted at two. Disaster struck that line when they were on the ice with less than three to play and called for icing. Moosomin dominated the ensuing face-off for nearly a minute with Sawchuk notching his second from a bad angle with just over two to go. The Rangers hung on for the win with Kopeck so close to tying it up with 14 seconds left. Kopeck also stole the puck from a Moosomin defender with 5 minutes to play and was stoned by Kyler Beckett on the ensuing 20 foot breakaway.
The Rockets appear to be snakebitten and starting the third period, moved Drew Hoff to the Kopeck and Kenton Miller line. Jordon Miller went with Poirier and Magotiaux. The two Millers and Kopeck have now scored only 1 goal and two assists in the last 8 periods of play when counting the Foam Lake double O/T victory. Moosomin was able to counter with two good lines including Sawchuk, Holloway, Cole, and Sawchuk. Fidierchuk (shoulder) McGonigal (work) and Lamontange (injured) did not dress. Both Josh and Jaxon Elmes had good games on the Ranger blue line. Beckett solid in net, with both he and Matthewson a little lucky on occasion.
Estimated crowd at 600 with room for more. Pot of gold of $1,800. won by a Carlyle Cougar fan. Referees Golden and Sidihia were excellent. Very little stick work or after the whistle mixups. Shots ended up 35-33 Rockets. Game two next Thursday in Moosomin.

You’re right the refs can be a determining factor……example
Kopeck hooks Schiller completely down and he gets breakaway and no penalty 3rd period and near end of game.
If 2 refs can’t see that at top of blueline zone they are both brutal.
We need jumbo from replays on screens I guess.
It was a fast pace and physical game but headlocks and steer wresting is for rodeo.
Redvers Coach has guys running around trying to hurt players and targeting special players a joke for league and teams and respect to young kids and guys that play hockey and work.
Wake up refs you’re in charge of player safety and if u let get out of hand both ways …it will.
I come to watch skill, skating, and play making.
Play hockey the right way or go play football as you can hurt players every play legally within rules with football if that is desire.
Overall grade reffing: 5.7/10

Topshelf is so soft. If you don’t like hitting go watch rec hockey. It’s senior playoff hockey and the rockets are a physical team. If you don’t like it don’t come. If moosomin players are worried about getting hit on clean checks they should also go play rec where there is no hitting.

Big 6 you’re not thinking of players and yes physical play is ok if legal.
I watch rec, pro, whl, junior, aaa midget and house.
Players trying to hurt players is not in my playbook and crosses the great game of sportsmanship.
My JR A team in Virden come watch.

Topshelf but there wasn’t one play last night where anyone was trying to hurt anyone else. Just physical play and clean hits. I didn’t see any kneeing/boarding/checking from behind.

In Virden as will illustrate a game that is intense but respect on ice.
Trying to hurt players is not acceptablei in 2024 and obviously you did not watch the game but were boozing it up again in beer gardens.
The team with best PP and PK and goaltending and healthy lineup wins this series.
Good luck to your Rockets as heavy weight south tilt tonight in Redvers vs Foal Lake. Looks like home ice advantage has not been big advantage in Provincials this year.

No wonder Moosomin jumps around from league to league all the time. Bunch of whining babies who don’t like hitting and always whine about reffing. Go play in rec tournies or take up reffing if you think you’re so good at it.

I spoke to fans from both sides and thought it was a really good hockey game. Sr hockey has body contact, go back to your Manitoba league if you want soft hockey. Watch the game as an actual fan and not just biased towards your team and you might actually enjoy all the talent on the ice |

Nothing but cry about Carlyle ,Moosomin or Carnduff It was Moosomin fans that told me the Manitoba league Moosomin played in didn’t have much hitting and talent level wasn’t as high. No whining here. I thought was a great game yesterday. Did refs miss calls? Absolutely but both ways. If Redvers wanted to play like goons and target guys do you not think they would go after Bud, Trotter, or even Becket when he is out playing the puck? I am not sure Bud or Trotter got hit last night. |

Se hockey are u really that clueless ? Somebody told u they don’t hit and not much talent in Manitoba. I just watched Elkhorn play the other night. Ya not very much talent there. Their top guys would shine in this league too. Maybe u should leave Redvers and go watch hockey somewhere else. It’s played all over the place. And as far as Trotter and Holloway not getting hit U really think that Redvers coach tells his players not to hit those 2. They don’t get hit much because they are elite players. Just like Millers and Kopeck don’t get hammered much.
