We follow a little hockey but what should criteria be for hockey categories?
Concepts: AAA- Wide open with Sask Registered players. AA-15 Imports. A-8 Imports. B-6 imports and population criteria. C-3 imports and population criteria. New: Other (Black Aces)- by Salary Cap.
Notes: Concession players are not freebies upon playing 3 years import is import. Worst parity rule ever.
Sask Hockey establishes Rankings per seeding.

Sask Hockey establishes Rankings per seeding. I feel like that would take an insane amount of collaboration between teams and leagues. I’d rather just see SHA legitimately make an effort to have a larger discussion on how the teams want it run. They could probably get away with three divisions of provs. A - wide open and 6 imports for the other two. C up to 2500 B up to 5000. (Or whatever gets an even number into those two brackets. The import conversation has gotten big and complicated. Having a salary cap means having paperwork that says you’re actually paying people money, I’m sure Revenue Canada would be extremely curious to see something like that. I would like to see teams band together and implement some kind of cap or agreement but I don’t think we’ll ever see it as much as it is needed. Only one winner in A but I bet if you added up what everyone in A is paying for imports over the course of a season you’re well over a million dollars. That tells me people are way too good at raising money or we should have a province wide low level pro league.

One million? How much are players getting paid 30 games x $500 per game = $15000 for one guy. Obviously not everyone is getting that, but that’s not an unusual number and some teams are paying 10 or more players for provs. Let alone the extra stuff like flying guys in for weekends/single games.

The only change I would like to see is get rid of the non-import status, just go with 5 imports and keep the populations the same for each category

The non import is a good one keeps guys to play in a town and not just jump around

The non import is a good one keeps guys to play in a town and not just jump around totally agree... anyone who has been part of running a team knows that having those non-imports is important. it allows you to build, especially if you don't have much in the way of minor hockey

I think the import rules are fine the way there are. I think the problem is population. It should be lowered so more teams in c and d. There is alot of teams that don't enter no more because they can't compete. How does a town of 400 compete with a town of 3500. Dinsmore, kyle thee exception.

I think in the interest of keeping Provincials going they should not include JR B players as imports (or allow an extra 5 "jr.b imports?). If they do that I think the existing system can work fine. Its just really hard to find 15 locals that are capable / have to time to play hockey at a decent level. Our town hasn't had a midget team in 5+ years and we are a town of 2000 people. If SR is going to survive it has to adapt. Also I know with the new sportal page it is easy for SHA to look up where guys played their minor hockey. That and submit a pic of your drivers license for proof of current address that would take out most of the dumb games being played with addresses.
