So, tell me how it changes the rule because I am confused now...should it be dependent on what team, conference, bench warmer, etc at higher levels? Junior A is the rule. Simple I agree that’s the simplest way to do it. Just needs to be reworded so it says that. It should read non elite is defined by less than 80 Junior A games with no college games. Watrous did nothing wrong by listing Adam as a non elite as defined by the league which is why no one said anything last year when it happened. Guaranteed if Watrous was going to suck again this year, nobody would have said a thing. Omg. Then everyone on watrous executive did not pass grade 6...

Lol, was done in plain sight of the whole league. If it is as obvious as you think then how’d Watrous get away with it? It’s clear the league saw it the way Watrous did.

So looking around at league rosters and who's listed as imports/non elites. Leroy's goalie Matt Richard isn't listed as an import and he played one game with Minot State.... so he's an elite?

I’m not even sure why this is a question. If Dmyterko and Richard were listed as none- elite last year then they should be this year too. The league should reword the rule, but any way they do that would have to have those two and anyone else who was in the league last year grandfathered in.

Everyone involved in this thread is an idiot in my opinion.
It’s a unique situation because there’s almost no players that play less than 80 games in junior a that go on to play NCAA. The examples Dopy brought up are stupid because they both will have played more than 80 games of junior A + Ncaa. Dmyterko didn’t play much Junior a during covid and then walked on a div 3 roster as a third string and was cut after one season. (Only got in three games. 1 as a start 2 as a backup)
Finding another example of a player like that will be nearly impossible.
It should be listed in the league rules if ncaa is considered elite, and/or if you need a certain amount of games there to be considered elite. 80 games combined between junior A and ncaa /whl.
The poor kid will probably be punished more than anyone in this situation. A decision won’t come till league meetings and then he will be searching for a team.

1000% Commish. With all these different leagues happening it will be time for all league to be more specific when it comes to elite rules. Seems weird that a kid who plays 79 SJ or AJ games is non elite, but a guy who played 40 SJ/AJ games and 3 division 3 games is considered elite.

I am pretty sure when Brett McCormick played with Foam Lake and Leroy he was a non elite, that was 4 or 5 years ago the rules may have changed. I don’t think he played any junior but did play Huskies. I do not know any thing about NCAA Div 3 but I am sure a CIS would be better than that.

Simple solution would be to drop the Jr A games back down to 20.

That, or have a cap off for higher than junior A. No more than 15 or so whl/university/college/pro games. Something like that

We just fixed the rule in the #QVHHL regarding elite/non-elite. Updated to only consider what level Junior they played. JR A & higher is elite. JR B or lower is non-elite. What they do after Junior is now irrelevant. Keeps from having to deal with guys that are really JR B players but go on to play USports, NCAA III or ACAC. Also, we determined their Junior ‘level’ based on where they were registered and played as of January 10th their last year of junior hockey. Could have played 18 & 19 year old years in Junior A and 20 year old year in JR B. You would be considered a JR B non-elite. The Q is the super league because they figured this problem out. Everyone else is miles behind the south

Why does this league still have an import rule? Why don’t they just open it up and let er buck? Would people stop supporting it if they didn’t have an import rule? Locals would most likely not support that. Then where would the money come from also? Most imports don’t have a clue where the money comes from. It’s like they think it’s a never ending money tree.

Isn’t that the truth!!!. it used to be maybe import players got gas money. Now it’s sticks mileage, plus an outrageous game fee. It never ends.

I'm sorry but its been 20 years since imports were just getting gas money. maybe not as much in this league, but if you remember the Wild Goose they were throwing money around in the late 90's early 2000's. the thing is during those days there wasn't as much stuff going on, and there were a lot more locals in small communities... now these imports are needed in order to ice a team. has the spending gone crazy... absolutely, but without the imports this league would be done.
