Asked the guy I know from Watrous about this. This is what he sent back. “Exact wording of rule change”. Each team will be allowed up to 4 non-elite imports, defined as not playing more than 80 “junior A” games Watrous is fine, as Dmyterko hasn’t played 80 games of junior A Ha that is like saying a guy with 60 junior A games is fine...but he played 1 whl game after...but he only played 60 junior A games. Piss around with the wording all u want, anything higher than junior A is a elite. Pretty simple. Div III is much better than ACAC, etc and they are considered elite. Omg Div 3 recruits junior A caliber players, and not the top ones. How does it magically become better than Junior A? The league changed the rule from 20 to 80 games so these types of players would be available. Not sure what the issue is here. Nobody is pissing around with the the wording.

Div 1 recruits Jr A players as well. And some will say Div 3 is a better route than Div 2. College hockey & Jr A hockey isn’t the same thing. By the ruling, I would consider him elite.

Ya this is a nothing burger... he's a non-elite but the way the rule is written. def. sounds like the league needs to clarify these rules better this fall, so there isn't bullshit like this going on.

It was discussed and voted on before game 2 of the league finals in Wadena. Any games played above JrA are considered elite. Had Adam not played those games in college, he’d definitely be a non elite.

Both of these players are exactly why the rule is being interpreted as it is. Just because you played less than 80 games of Jr A doesnt mean you are not elite. If those two would continue their jr careers you are looking at 100 pt junior guys. They were so good they could make the jump to a higher level. NCAA > JR A.

Anyone who’s one year junior A and straight div 1 will play some level of pro. Find me one retired player looking for a senior team that’s played less than 80 SJ games, played div 1 and didn’t play pro after.

I am interpreting the rule the way it is written. I don’t deny the rule should be reworded but I don’t think Watrous is in the wrong for having Adam as a non elite as the rule is written.

So, tell me how it changes the rule because I am confused now...should it be dependent on what team, conference, bench warmer, etc at higher levels? Junior A is the rule. Simple

Simple I agree that’s the simplest way to do it. Just needs to be reworded so it says that. It should read non elite is defined by less than 80 Junior A games with no college games. Watrous did nothing wrong by listing Adam as a non elite as defined by the league which is why no one said anything last year when it happened. Guaranteed if Watrous was going to suck again this year, nobody would have said a thing.
