Yes, this current team is down to just a few locals, but let’s not act like the 11 other provincial championships they’ve won weren’t heavily built on local talent.

First off, reffing was highly questionable. ML deserved all their penalties but Drake got away with literally everything. Missed 4 minute high stick in the third and no even up rough call with 4 minutes left wasn't the right call through these 30/20 eyes.
Second, not a great game atmosphere in Drake. Huge crowd and the only loud thing about that barn is the goal horn. Should a little music between whistles in a game like that not be a formality?
Third thing, You'd think a guy with 2 cups rings like Dwight King would have a little respect and shake hands after the series. The guy dipped out before the buzzer even went off.

King probably had to leave early because he was high stuck and bleeding. Toughed it out then had to go get stitches. Shitty a series had to end this way. Kudos to drake for a good series and good job to meadow for making it all the way to the finals with a team of local meadow and walburg boys!

I think that your 1st point answered your 3rd point.. Dwight played hockey all over the world (even Russia) and has probably never seen reffing that one sided. The mafia owned teams in the KHL would have probably been jealous of the greasing that the refs handed Meadow… easier to leave the ice, then to lose his composure in front of kids.

I don’t understand all of the Saskatoon and population comments. This is A Provincials all teams have access to every player in Saskatchewan, if they can sign them.

Lots of people like to grasp at straws or take away from a teams accomplishments. If its not the population, its the payroll, or the refs. Never the fact that one team was better than the other. Sad really.

No problem with imports and picking up players because it’s 100% wide open.. but to say Drake is a population of 200 and created a dynasty? When they won A provincials with 4-5 local players on the team, is a little bit out there.. It’s more impressive when a team like Wilkie or I’ll use Meadow can win with 85% local boys.

I don't really think your logic is that valid either really. 85% of Meadow Population is still 4500. 85% of Drake is 170. Either way. It doesn't matter. I agree that the population is a moot point when it comes to A provincials. Only time I think it is impressive would be D and a team is way below the max allowed.

The Senior A provincial Champions “Drake Refs”
Power plays Drake 7. Meadow 0.
Score Drake 6 Meadow 3
Although the game wasn’t the most exciting, Old battleford Northstar team mates, Cameron Blair And Regan Yew, looked like absolute wagons for their clubs . They got into a scrum in the 2nd period and you gotta love to see that. Two top guys absolutely leaving everything on the line, balls to the wall. Good ole Sasky Hockey, it was a rough game, fast, but mostly translucent. I kinda wish the game had went to overtime , looked like meadow was pushing to come back, but unfortunately that didn’t pan out.
When you look at both rosters , the depth of these teams was ridiculous. Congrats to Drake, I hope to see a rematch in the near future, after all the commotion at the end of the game. I don’t think the meadow lake broncos will be forgetting about this Loss for a very long time.
Also- Provincials should be run like alberta, the top teams that win their league , should be able move on to play for a provincial title. I’m preety sure meadow lake was out in the first round of the playoffs?, but did play for a senior “A” title, at the of the day that just doesn’t make any sense to me. So the top team from meadow lakes league? “Saskalta” could’ve beat drake? If drake barely beat meadow? Get my point here? I’m not trying to step on any heels, because I know drakes a top team in their league but We kind of have everything backwards here in sask. We should really dissect for the future on how to make hockey more exiting, especially here in Saskatchewan, and to also figure out who truly is the best team in Saskatchewan at the end of every season.

This isn’t Meadow Lake’s league team in the Prov A finals though.
I love the way Alberta does it, but they also have tiers. But I also love how we do it. I almost wish there was a 3rd system for the winners. But we don’t really have that kinda time for playdowns.

No time and I don't think there is much interest from teams or players to keep playing past March.
