Who the hell wants play for free and get chased around by nimrods with one objective and that’s to take someone’s lights out. Because we have all seen it happen and guys aren’t driving for hours on weekends to strictly fill their gas tank. It’s 2024. Pay to play , these guys aren’t going any where that they are gonna sacrifice their families and careers. Wake tf up u old timers. No one is saying to play for free. But what Raymore and Lumsden are doing can not be defended. Raymore is going to be over 4K a game and they’re trying to add Calder Brooks at 1000$ per game on top of that. Stupidity. Lumsden “moving” their Provincial pick-ups into town for league play is ridiculous. 300-500$ a game for 6-8 guys just doesn’t make any sense. Allowing your new goalie to go and spend over 8K for new gear. Is this a pro team? No wonder this is the last year for the QVHHL. So Raymore and Lindsey ruined senior hockey. Cool story bro. 😎

Balcarres was the first to start doing this. Money has been paid for decades. $100 here, $200 there. Convince a couple studs to come to your town with no connection and receive some money. Cover your expenses, play for the love of the game.
Many years ago, Balcarres changed the game and started offering huge stupid money to anyone. Their manager would literally text or call people he didn’t know and say "will you come play for us for $400 a game" and that ballooned.
So yes, raymore, Canora, Lumsden are ruining Sr hockey by doing this. First Odessa, then Balgonie (thankfully they are back), now Grenfell.
One poster said it best, the Monday Nooner guys are a huge part of this. The nickname "the beach boys" for Lumsden?? It’s become a joke that they are embracing, and it’s a nickname given to them because they were cheating so dirty and blatantly on their roster. And we are celebrating it like they pulled a funny prank.
Don’t you see all this is connected? Chirp me all you want, I’m waiting for the keyboard heroes to respond calling me a dinosaur or telling me to get with the times or saying I’m just bitter. Well maybe I am, but if these are the times I don’t want a part of them. Your ruining the game I love and another long time team has bit the dust.
Keep paying these idiots ridiculous sums of money just because you can. Because you can - That’s not a proper reason in my books.

The nooner guys are a joke. Just a couple of blowhards who have done more harm than good. And they aren’t fooling anyone. Using sponsors money to go on family trips. Losers. Now they’re on the Sportscage too. LOL. Oh how that once great show is now run by a couple of basement podcasters.

Wont be long until the sports cage is looking to change again. Nails on chalkboard.

Plus their whole squad is local except for 2 guys from Regina which 1 has a local connection aka he grew up 15 mins away. Teams that are more than 3-4 hours away from Saskatoon and Regina have to pay just their locals who are in university to play the game great players or not. When you’re driving 800km and fuel is $1.50/L it adds up quickly. When teams pay tolls exceed $2000-$2500 that’s when it becomes a joke. Senior hockey teams having a pay roll of $1000-$1500 20 years ago is no different then today. The old $100-$200 games are inflated to $500 province wide in my opinion. Seniorfan1989 is obviously someone from Grenfell.. A lot of this too is in order to be competitive you need to pay out something.. maybe the problem is too many teams around the province. Not enough good talent willing to play senior anymore. So for people to attract a player has to be with something.

At the end of the day it comes down to is their local support? are locals lacing up for the teams and supporting it? Do you have 5-8 boys on the team that from those stomping grounds, even though there isn’t a lot of grassroots anymore. If you have local guys, and you have imports or locals from other areas and they come in and actually provide and try to grow the community, than that’s a plus. Often you morons look strictly at the $$ but have you realized when these players give back, a kid wants to be a hockey player in a small town again? Grandparents get out of their house and care about their community and family ties to there town. You underestimate that these guys are just collecting cheques and ing off. No they are legitimately doing the extra things and care from the youth to the elderly, and the teams with money that fundraise and show up in the community, they prove it time after time after time. It is one thing if you are paying strictly for the product but you are paying for good people to, people that can create positive environments for more and that’s what our game is about. So how about you old bums just pipe it and stop being so bitter you never got the same opportunity when you played cuz your bitter.

All I see in these last few comments is loser towns that can’t support senior hockey.
Join a rec plus league as someone else mentioned.
Long live the Nooner.

Maybe leagues should not allow any imports? If your team doesn’t have enough local guys they shouldn’t have a team in a league. Exception is if you grew up in that community or played your last year of minor hockey in that town. Let the city boys who grew up in the cities play in adult safe or create competitive senior leagues in the cities.

Why would I want to spend my hard earned money as a sponsor paying a guy to play a senior game when he already makes 6 figures at his day job in some cases. Problem is nobody will play for hometown pride anymore, which I guess makes sense as these small towns are no longer producing any talent from the grassroots level, or parents are driving their kids to the nearest AAA novice team in a city and these kids never get the opportunity to suit up for their hometown. All because they think their kid is the next Jon Cheechoo and are too good for their hometown house team. All the players in the history of the NHL and you land on Jonathan Cheechoo as your reference?

I actually do not even live in the QVHL area just jumped into the thread to give my opinion. I think nothing wrong with paying a few guys that will never stop but there’s becoming a big number. It’s just not sustainable for leagues and teams

I think there’s a difference between a town supporting a senior team and a town that supports and pays for a senior team The nooner is great but let’s be real they Been going long enough that’s it’s pretty clear they are pumping thier sponsees tires and the handfull of high paying teams that they can brown nose. The rest of the teams and leagues get there five minutes they chat about and that’s it which is fine. Good or bad nobody else has given any senior hockey the air they have
