Please explain how teams do not play an equal amount of games. I am genuinely curious how the schedule in this league works? There is not a single senior league in the province that plays more than 18 games. The way the SV is setup this year, 8 of 12 teams will play 18 games while the other 4 (top 2 in each division) will play 16 games

A 2 game wild card? Is it a two game total point? It’ll be that modified best of 3 style that HockeySask introduced a few years back, so each team gets a home game. If the 2 games end up in a split, teams will play overtime to determine series winner after game 2. Essentially the 2 less 5 season games were replaced with the 2 game wild card round. It will be less games for the top 4 teams ( who usually end up playing lots of games) but everyteam in the league will get to 18 and have a chance at more.

18 games isn’t enough. That’s only 9 home games. Should be 22 games. Everyone plays everyone.

Everyone plays everyone. 18 games was perfect for last years and every other year before that. 6 more games is the 3 more full weekends away from family, work, friends etc. If you want more hockey, support your local SJ team. Chances are you will be watching some of your teams future players.

Playing 11 consecutive weekends of 2 games every weekend. Sounds like a nightmare for commitment. Everyone always wants more games but if you dont have the players to do it its kind of hard to do.

And if that's the regular season schedule, you'll lose local players that aren't interested in that commitment requirement, and you lose opportunity on quality import players that will choose one of the other leagues around Saskatoon which only play 14-18 regular season games. The players don't want 20+ game regular seasons.

It should be a home and home. If guys don’t commit then maybe they shouldn’t be playing Sr. The more games is what gets teams ready for playoffs and provincials. Not playing less. Also maybe the SVHL shouldn’t be letting more and more teams enter if this is how teams think? And as shitty as it sounds and I understand every team goes through tough seasons to stay afloat but people pay to watch the davidsons, kenastons, and the Kyle’s. I think the league really missed out on some good hockey played in a few barns by only playing the east and west 1 time over two. And yes they will play in the playoffs, but people pay to watch these teams play all the time. League or playoffs And the SHA sanctioned game three overtime is a joke. This is mens hockey. I think all teams would agree to play a game three rather then a next goal wins in a game 3 situation.

They need the home games to make money for their rinks and to keep the doors open. Their players had no issue with playing more. Unfortunate some teams can’t get the same commitment from their players.

Is anyone else disappointed in less games and the league being split in two? If teams want to play less games why don’t they go to another league? It’s a joke. And for instance (Kyle fan here) Kyle misses out on 2 main gates at home versus Kenaston and Davidson to pack their barn and offer some good hockey. Fans want to see the top teams more not the bottom feeders teams in the league. It should be a home and home with everyone in the league. If u want to play less hockey go and play for your local beer league team, heard you can come and go as you please there. There's been years in the SVHL there was 22, 24 and even 26 game schedules. I would like to believe as you said that teams would desire more games for the gates helping to keep the rink open. And the SVHL has never had divisions in the 2000's, perhaps in their earlier years they did? A home and home 22 game schedule would be great, I agree!

I think one was 2027-28 - there were 3 divisions of 3 teams. And the 2020-21 season started with 2 divisions, but was cut short.

The argument for more games to keep rinks open from gate money is a poor one… from a players standpoint, no one wants to play 20+ regular season games. Plus, last season I played in multiple away games where the home team had under 20 people in attendance. If you want to play more hockey or want your team to play more games, enter a provincial team. 30+ potential games with reg. season, playoffs, and provincials.
That’s just me though, maybe their are some psychopaths that would love to commit 10 full weekends away from their families in the middle of winter, but not me.

The days of 24 game regular season schedules are long gone. 14-18 games is plenty it seems. And still some guys only make the bare minimum of games required to be eligible for playoffs. Commitment to senior hockey isn’t what it was in the past. Guys like doing things other than driving to two games every single weekend.

Lucky Lake spanked Loreburn. Anyone at the game? What happened? Heard from the boys working that Loreburn’s goalie was shaky early and Lucky Lake was super tight in the slot and just didn’t give Loreburn many quality chances. Lot of bounces went for Lucky Lake but Loreburn dominated the shot clock
