Has anyone at Hockey SK been able to give a compelling reason to implement the added players rule for provincials?

This is backwards in my opinion. If anything, someone from the city should be an import rather than a town kid. Nobody wants to drive 2 hours than play a rec game and than drive another 2 hours back hahaha There are lots of guys out there driving much more than that to play

Adding city kids is a joke to small towns! Senior hockey you need heart, and care about the place you play! otherwise you lose anyways! Adding AA players may help some teams for numbers for a year or 2, but most teams that will add these players are losing games. Just another way to kill Sask hockey in the future!

On the flip side to this there are also quite a few kids whose parents grew up in small towns and left to the city who still have strong connections to their home communities but would be considered an import.

Being able to pick up 3 players, that i would equate to the average local can help keep some programs going. And you can get guys that are buddies from younger years or school that come out, they can stick around for years, if you have the right team culture.

I find it interesting that it explicitly states that the AA exemptions have to be from one of the City’s. A player from a big town is still an import. For example a Nipawin player playing in Tisdale or Hudson Bay. Nipawin is the one city where it might make sense for an exception on that rule. 2022 population stats are 4400, so just below the city threshold. there aren't many centers in SK that are over 3K but under 5K.
