well there you have it! I guess money will get you through against a depleted Spitfire team. Would have been a Cinderella story if they won today. Would have love to see them beat the blank check cougars and I’m sure half of the fans there also. Full roster Spits would have handed the cougars a 2 straight loss for sure. Oh and good job Gabriel, 2 tens in two games! Lol 2 more weeks of you complaining on here about the cougars. Lol . So I’m assuming Grenfell isn’t paying any of their 7 imports they have according to their roster according to the QVHL website?

Not tonight cause most were in the stands injured. Enjoy your asterisk win pal. Almost lost to a team missing half their fire power.

Um I think you are proving the other people right with your post Hooper as you are saying they have 8 imports which means 8 locals are now sitting and as for the payroll the team is not keeping it a secret that they are paying these guys all this money, they are pretty much bragging about it and the fact that they are flying in Redding and his family. They want a tittle and with the team they had this is the only way that they have a chance to accomplish that. No need to make excuses for the team as they are embracing the situation. We will see if it all works out Where is the 8 coming from? They picked up 6 players for provincials, 4 on the front end and 2 on the back end. 8/12 forwards are on the league team not to mention Shaw who was local may have been the best player tonight, 4/6 on the back end are local to go with the 3 goalies that are you guessed it also on the league squad. I would also be surprised if the payroll is over $3500/$4000 per game, maybe more if they are playing for flights but rumour I got was Reddick wanted to play a year of provs with his local team before he hangs them up. Considering they are probably bringing in 8-10k at each home game from the gate, 50/50 and booze sales they are probably doing just fine not to mention the concession sales for the rink. Like it was for the last two home games in provincials the rink packed shoulder to shoulder and it was some great senior hockey to watch, tight right down to the wire. Reffing was questionable and goaltending was shaky on the side of Grenfell as Carlyle started the game scoring 4 on 12 shots. Grenfell battle hard and kept it close with some help from the refs. Let us put this debate to rest.. Carlyle with their pickups, are a good team. 3 lines deep and adequate on D. Without them, they are a below .500 team in an average league. Nothing wrong with picking up players for provs. In fact, it makes things much more enjoyable and good on the Cougars for giving the town something to get excited about. Without their pickups, Grenfell sweeps them. Even with a depleted lineup. With no injuries on the Spits, Grenfell probably beats Carlyle either way, Ruopp might be the best shutdown D in the province, but unfortunately for the Spits, injuries happen and they are a part of senior hockey. No shame in the effort they put forth. Very good team that got beat by another very good team. Hope to see this matchup in Provs next year. Will be some new faces and bad blood. Now if the children on here could stop with the mud slinging that would be appreciated.

Now if the children on here could stop with the mud slinging that would be appreciated. Agree on some points and agree to disagree on others. Coulda-woulda-shoulda is a matter of opinion. What’s not a matter of opinion is that the better team won. Period. And that’s the way it should be. There is something to be said for being a good loser. It’s a dying art form, as evidenced from some of the babies on this thread. Grenfell has a good program and will rebound, no doubt, and will be heard from in future years. But this year belongs to the Cougars and the Wildcats, as it should. Both teams battled adversity, injuries and tough competition to claw their way to the final. As hockey fans , no matter what town we are from, we should applaud these young men, who are putting their talents - and bodies - on the line and on display for our enjoyment. Best of luck to both the Cougars and Wildcats in the final and may the best team win.

Just an add-on about game three this afternoon. The Cougars beat a injured Spitfire lineup who still dressed 14 skaters today. Their real battle for them was the penalty box and the officiating. Four 5 on 3s, three of them for a nearly full two minutes. Penalties 7 to 1 in the first and finally evened out a bit in the third. Estimated final penalties Carlyle 12 - Grenfell 5. No game sheet. It looked like the Spitfires drove these referees to the game.
Grenfell up early and then scored another on the p.p. Trailing 2-0 late in the first, Marc Shaw and then Kruise Reddick scored on two breakaways both from centre ice making it 2-2 after one. Cougars came out strong in the second making it 4-2, but Grenfell with two late and it was 4-4 after forty. Gabrielle got a non call late in the second and told the ref about it. Got a 10 minute to start the third. One minute into the third, Brent McLean replaces Jesse and his wrister made it 5-4. Valdez Bear on the p.p. later and 6-4. #16 Harbor got a weak goal with 8 to go and it was 6-5.
With 7 to go, a Spitfire got a 4 minute kneeing penalty which tuckered them out. Carlyle hung on for the win.
Spitfires finished this series tired and uninspired. Too many injuries and they do not like the physical play. Foster was again their best player along with Harbor. #28 Tanner Kyle played great on the point but was booed by the Cougar crowd every time he touched the puck. Didn't know what was going on there. Kilback looked tired as did Fowlie, Kilgore did not have a great game.
Cougar forward lines played great, one of the best was small forward #5 Brett Turgeon. Kruise Reddick, Jesse and Czerwonka were good. Marc Shaw scored twice.
Estimated crowd 650 tops. Pot of gold another huge one of over $4.2K won by a U18 Cougar player.

lol on paper they should of swept in 2. These were two equally matched teams. Could of went either way. Well … it was only REMOTELY competitive when Grenfell had the refs in their pocket , which they did in games 1 and 3. I’m not sure where you can bet on this game, but clearly the stripes had some money down on Grenfell today. Lol The best team won and it really wasnt that close. Game 2 had objective officiating and that’s about as competitive as these two teams are Hopefully Carlyle can get a bigger challenge from Wadena And hopefully, whoever is assigning these refs, pulls their head out of their a** and gets some competent officials in place. As a ref in this province for over 20 years, including 3 in the SJ, I was embarrassed by what I saw today. It’s these kinds of officials that give us all a bad name. Do you still wear your SJ jersey when you work bantam house games?

Let it be noted that both teams played under the same provincial B roster regulations... if you blame injuries maybe you need more resilient players...big 6 teams ain't nothing to f with
