It was quite the game tonight. Grenfell dressed only 13 skaters and had only Kilgore in net. Carlyle ran into penalty trouble early and weathered a nearly full two minute 5 on 3 power play late. Fowlie finally scored with 39 seconds left and it was 1-0 after one. Shots were 18-6 for the Spitfires and Carlyle goaltender Zane Winter kept the Cougars in the game.
Carlyle started to dominate in the second and 4 minutes in Czerwonka tied it at 1 on assists from Gabrielle and Deck. He got his second minutes later and the cougars led 2-1 after two. Kilgore made some great saves and it should have been 4-1 Cougar after forty minutes..
Carlyle started the third on the power play and 35 seconds in Nathan Deck made it 3-1 on the power play, from Gabrielle and Reddick. With 8 to go, Benny Johnstone notched his first from Jonny Gaudet and the game was over. A late goal by Shaw made the final 5-1.
Grenfell was simply exhausted after this game. Carlyle rolled three lines, got some penalty calls going the right way later on and hammered the Spitfires time after time. Nathen Deck played great but goaltender Winter was the Cougar number one game star. As was Kilgore for the Spits. Final shots ended up even at around 35 each.
Estimated crowd 900. An absolutely huge pot of gold was won by a local Cougar fan. Game three Sunday 1:00 p.m. Grenfell has to bring more than 13 skaters. Rink will be packed. Refs were from out of town, don't know where from. They did an ok job.

Gotta wonder how grenfell will be Sunday at 1. Saturday night league playoffs, then to Sunday, that’s a lot of hockey in an 18 hour span. And like the post above said, they were gassed by the end of tonight
