I was really hoping for the teams to make it easy on me moving forward. But we have some surprising results in some league's, wild comebacks in Provincials and some previously highly ranked teams going out with a whimper.
1. Wilkie Outlaws-Still an easy choice. After the OT scare with Macklin last week they won game two 4-1. In Prov they dispatched Biggar and now play Dinsmore in the North Final starting Saturday.
2. Foam Lake Flyers-The Flyers keep on winning. In league play they have been buoyed with the return of Boyer. After only playing a couple of league games this year he has retuned at the right time for Flyer fans. He scored the OT winner in Game 1 of the Wynyard series for the 4-3 win. Then last night he scored with 19 seconds left for a 2-1 win in the 3rd game. Wynyard won game two 6-4. The 4th game vs Wynyard is tonight. In Provincials the Flyers beat the Buffs 3-1 in the 1st game and play game 2 on Saturday in a game that will be on GX94 Radio for anyone that would like to listen.
3. Lumsden Monarchs-In Provincials the Monarchs beat their Rival Broncs 3-1. From people at the game I keep hearing about Lumsden's depth as they have a team full of players that compete and they don't have a drop off in talent through the lines. In Playoffs after winning the 1st game 4-3 they scored 6 in the 2nd period last night to win 7-1 over a strong Grenfell team. They play Friday and (if necc) Monday vs Balcarres and I haven't heard when they play the 3rd game vs Grenfell.
4. Dinsmore Dynamos-In their last 3 games Dinsmore has beat Kyle 6-4 and in Provincials they over came a 6-3 3rd period deficit in Canora to take game 2 by a 9-6 score. Then on Sunday, again in Canora, after being down 4-3 in the 3rd they scored to Tie and Matt Jones won it for Dinsmore to win and move on to play Wilkie.
5. Redvers Rockets-The Rockets hammered a Craik team that hadn't played in 3 weeks easily 8-1 in the first game of their series. They play game 2 on Saturday and (if necc) game 3 Sunday in Craik. In Playoffs after dispatching Midale they needed a strong 3rd last night to beat Carnduff in the Big 6 Semi Finals. Game 2 goes tomorrow night.
6. Kenaston Blizzard/Kyle Elks-One team won easy in league and lost in Prov and the other the opposite but both vs Davidson. The Blizz beat Davison 3 straight in league (6-4, 8-3 and 7-2) to punch their ticket in to the Finals Where they wait for the winner of Kyle vs Dinsmore. In provincials they lost game 1 to Kindersley 6-4. Kyle lost to Dinsmore in Game 1 of playoffs but beat Davidson 3-2 and 7-3. The Elks now play Carnduff in the D Semi's
7. Paradise Hill Hawks-While the other 2 teams in the Semi's split their first 2 games the Hawks beat Dewberry 10-2 and 5-2. They continue the Semi final series Saturday at home.
8. Carlyle Cougars-Carlyle beat RL 7-4 in a hotley contested game this weekend that was probably seen by more eyes than any game this year as reports were there were 1600 fans in attendance and 1000 people watching online. Game 2 goes Saturday in Carlyle and (if necc) Game 3 is Sunday in Carlyle. In League play the Cougars play Moosomin tomorrow night in the Big 6 Semi finals.
9. Wadena Wildcats-This team has me stumped. Last Weekend they outplayed a very strong Watrous Provincial team and came away with a 8-4 win. But last night they lost a very close game 3-2. However that isn't the reason the Cats slipped this week. The reason is that after dominating Drake 9-1 in the 1st game of the semi finals they lost game two 8-3. The Cats don't have many days to lick their wounds as they play Drake on Friday, Watrous Saturday, Drake Monday and if needed again on Tuesday.
10. Assiniboia Rebels-The Rebels are 5-0 in Notekeu playoffs. After beating Gravelbourg 3 straight they have beaten Glentworth 5-4 2 games in a row. They play again Friday night.
