Saw on Twitter that the Bulych brothers, who play for their hometown of Foam Lake, have sponsored a 50/50 for their playoff game. It’s sure refreshing to see young local icons unselfishly giving back to their hometown teams like this in a financial way. Tough for sr hockey teams to survive without this type of support from within!

Do you mean giving some their game cheques back? If they were such local icons they’d be playing for their hometown for free.

They get 500 a game. Gas money, they live and have a business there.

This discussion has occurred here before but lets recap. Most business sponsor the local teams during the year but I have yet to see a 50/50 payout say $1500. If they do pay it is the difference between what the 50/50 amount taken is and 1500. So you have a bad crowd you only collect 1000 to pay out it would cost them 500 to top it up. Good crowd the payout is $2000 it costs the sponsor nothing .

God forbid players who have worked their whole careers to become the elite players they are are compensated for their time and commitment to the team. All other elite players all over the province get paid, why should players who are locals be any different? At least Foam Lake is getting two committed guys who care about the town and team unlike some other imports who make more $$ in this league…

The point I’m trying to make is be mad at the Sr system that has allowed players to be paid as much as they are. Don’t be mad at players for understanding their value. If Foam Lake wouldn’t pay them someone else would. You can’t be upset with elite locals being paid if you’re ok with imports being paid. You either don’t like anyone getting paid or you understand that elite players will be paid and compensated for their time and commitment.

I think its a real bad look being from that community and asking for big coin just to play there.

Nice gesture by the boys, but if they are getting paid it means nothing…..sorry. We have 6x jr guys who get nothing to play, all locals, they work booth shifts, help flood ice, and 3 of them have already guaranteed 50/50. $ will eventually be the killer for most senior hockey teams, especially if your paying locals.

Allegedly the bulych bros are making their hometown team pay them $500 to play. Any local player that asks to be paid by their home town team is a joke.
