Big Six teams at a disadvantage when it comes to Provincials. Moosomin had no chance in game 3 vs Balcarres playing 3 games in 3 days. All other leagues who want to win provincials plays best of 3 in league to allow teams to be fresh for provincials. Why in the world is round one a best of 5. The extra games are just not necessary.

Except moosomin wasn’t playing league playoffs yet, so that excuse is null and void. The more games excuse also doesn’t count when you get to play kipling, wawota, midale 7-8 times a year

Wait until Redvers travels to Craik on a Friday than gets sandwich to play a league playoff on Saturday than play Craik on Sunday. The Big Six plays no weekday games all regular season but in playoffs they are playing Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lots of teams recruit players because only play weekends. These teams could be short on weekdays. Big Six should go back to Tuesday’s and one on the weekend. the Big Six have some good teams in the past. When was the last provincial senior title.? I think scheduling plays a big part in not winning along with playing over half their games in a non competive league. In long lake and sask valley they play weekdays all year play in a competive league and put provincials ahead of league. Maybe the Big Six teams could do better with some mor thought in the process. The goal is to win provincials or why enter. Teams need a chance

Every team in senior hockey plays to win, whether it is in league or provincials, and, if not, to at least keep their rinks open. Not all teams have the talent, imports, or sponsors to compete. This is the 64th consecutive year that the Big Six Hockey League has been in existence, One can assume that the Redvers Rockets or Carnduff Red Devils would covet another Big Six Championship as much as a Provincial D 12 team or Provincial C 14 team tournament. Towns here in the southeast have been rivals for years and winning bragging rights thru the summer is very satisfying. Best of fives just add to the excitement and drama. Frankly, I think the main reason that many other leagues play best of threes is because of extremely high payroll commitments. There is enough time to play provincials and league over the next 46 days or so. And only a couple of cream of the crop teams play the last two weeks in March.

I think your a bit off on the reasoning for best of 3’s in the Long Lake and SV. It’s not cause they are paying guys higher amounts of money , it’s cause almost all the teams enter provincials so when you look at how many days there are to play games it would get too tight for not having to play 3 in 3’s and keeps the quality up for league playoffs during the week and some weekends. And lets the weekends be more for provincials. Let’s the league represent itself to big quality league and long provincial runs

also all leagues will run into this problem. Drake played last night and now plays league playoffs tonight against watrous. watrous wins tonight and they would play again wednesday... then have 1 day off then play friday against lumsden in provs... 4 potential games in 5 days. all leagues go through this. although i will agree that a best of 5 for the 1st round is a bit much.

It’s just a sign of the times. In years past every league in the province played at least 24-28 game regular seasons. Then they had best of 5’s for all playoff rounds. Some leagues even had best of 7 finals. Then on top of that, the teams that entered provincials had to play minimum 4 rounds to get to the finals.
Priorities have changed and no one wants to play that many games anymore for better or worse.
