Just another masterclass by one of SHA’s finest tonight, Dean Elmy. That guy put on a clinic tonight. 7 penalties in a row called by Elmy to start the game, letting his officiating partner know who’s boss, alpha move. Phantom calls all night, making sure all the players know who the fans are really here to watch. And letting the boys play good old spear, jab, and cheap shot behind the play. Just a beautiful performance. 10/10 as always. Would have probably been a pretty good game to watch at 5 on 5 if we actually got to see any 5 on 5 tonight. But we didn’t. It was the Elmy show. Worth the price of admission. The Dean Elmy show hey? Without referees u wouldn’t be able to have the games that you all complain about. Elmy is always at the rink helping young refs learn the game, and always making sure games happen. Without guys like him there would be no games. At the end of the day from what I saw when watching the calls that were made were all penalties. Raymore goal was called off for what seemed to be net off. They fixed it right after anyway so that’s likely what it was. But from what I saw the game was a good physical game. Seemed like one weaker call from both refs. U guys need to lay off the refs Yes sometimes there are bad calls but it goes both ways. Complaining won’t do anything though. If you want to do better then join up and u can get yelled at too

Anyone else sick and tired of the “if you wanna criticize the refs you try ref” BS. It’s okay to criticize people for being bad at their jobs. What kind of soft, participation trophy, kinda world have we come to that nobody can handle criticism? If you’re a bad ref, you get called a bad ref. Just like if you’re a dirty hockey player, you get called a dirty hockey player, etc. etc. It’s okay to criticize refs when they deserve it. And some deserve it more often than others (hence why they are bad refs). There’s bad reffing jobs at all levels of hockey, including NHL, and senior is no different. And it’s okay to point out when a bad job is done. I think we can all agree that a well officiated game is always a more entertaining one. And maybe if the reffing community had a little accountability we’d see some hire quality work.

And maybe if the reffing community had a little accountability we’d see some hire quality work. Who would you like to see teach these young refs and put the effort into referees in our province? Dean has been doing it a long time and I know that won't satisfy you because its a thankless f*cking job. I can agree accountability is a big part of officiating, but lets face it YOU will never make everyone happy when calling a game, so if you want to b*tch and complain about the refs I'm pretty sure there are other sports you could take up watching because without officials you wont have the game of hockey. I was once an official, and I am no longer one not because I didn't enjoy it but because life happens and priorities change. I will say this I'm pretty confident if Dean Elmy had it his way he wouldn't be out there officiating any senior game, he would rather be watching senior officials call the game. BUT guess what those are way harder to find then ANYONE will accept. In saying all of this I wasn't at last nights hockey game, and I understand how emotion can play into people yelling at the refs. BUT everyone needs to grow up when it comes to the blame the ref game of a hockey game. Maybe hold some accountability before you jump on here as a Guest and want to hid behind a keyboard. I don't know which team you cheer for but I'm pretty sure that team made enough mistakes that they didn't win the game. I shake my head at how easy fans blame others when if they actually took the sunglasses off could say "Well this play (our guy) made could have changed the outcome of the game" Rant over.

Get a grip. Cant handle some mean words boo fricken hop. Get over it. Be better. Boo hoo there were so many missed calls on Miller who’s lashes and hacks behind the play and in front of the refs, they tried letting them play most all raymore penalties in the third were penalties, you are crying because your team lost, you are the one that needs to get over it. The goal that was called off was because Miller skated through the crease behind Wynyard goalie and Miller knocked it off when he ran into Taylor. There was no need for him to go behind the goalie the net was clearly off and everyone in the arena was screaming it, so it was a great call. Wynyard was short handed at that time 5 on 3 but no one mentions the bad calls on Wynyard. It went both ways good calls, some bad ones each way and so missed ones each way. So enough Raymore can try again next year

Never saw the game and I agree Elmy isn’t the best ref but he does ok. This game wasn’t decided by a couple offsides or a weak penalty I’d bet the officials missed some calls on both teams. Forget about it.

Heaven forbid anyone questions a ref’s calls on this board. Holy man. Anytime someone complains about a ref, the first response is always “you should do the job then”. Current and ex refs on here sure do get their feelings hurt easily.

I wasn't at the game, if you think my feelings are hurt, your sadly mistaken, all I was getting at is you will never make everyone happy as a referee. but to say that referees decide games that can be a stretch of a comment. I also have never seen a box score for a provincial game, so I don't know the circumstances from last nights game either. A penalty is a penalty, people will always b"tch about it.

Have to agree with Pierre here. Wasn’t at the game either, but have seen this type of reffing before. Poorly reffed games can definitely have an impact on the outcome of a game. Would also say that in cases like this, a poorly reffed game can affect a rinks bottom line. One team is golfing and one has at least a couple more games in their home barn to bring in some cash.

They are not immune to criticism.

I do believe that the accountability they have is that they are supervised most games and especially in provincials it’s every game. From there they are given certain grades and need to maintain that level to go to the next round. If the supervisor who is with Sask Hockey Association deems they did a good job then they are able to keep getting games. Now I was standing near the gentleman who did the supervising and he only had a few notes wrote down. Which means in the eyes of an unbiased supervisor they must have done well. It’s easy to complain as a fan of a certain team. You definitely see things one sided which you obviously are. These guys skate for 60 minutes watching everything, hearing the players and fans complain while trying to maintain a standard all while having a smaller field of view than from the stands. Last night I think penalties were 15-13 or something along those lines. I also believe both teams had a 5 on 3. Nothing unfair about that. They set a standard to not try to teller the game get away which almost happens at centre ice that one play. Like it was said previous, if you did your job which took 6 hours of your day for $100 and got yelled at all day would you be wanting to do it? Now like I said before if the refs quit around here there would be no hockey for you to come watch. Then what are you going to do? So like it was said by a few guys, let’s appreciate the fact that they come out here and do these games so we all have something to watch and discuss over a forum
