This may have been discussed on past forums, but I hadn't noticed. I attended two Senior Provincial Games yesterday. Game three of the Senior B Final in Carlyle and Game one of Senior C South Final in Redvers. Attendance for both was great, but it could have been better. Why would senior management allow live streaming to their games, especially with commentary? The Theodore Buffalos had commentary at their game in Carnduff for Game three of the Provincial D South Final yesterday as well. It's great for people who follow their teams from far away, but I know of many fans that are staying home now to watch the games on-line. Seems to be a very dumb idea to me. Teams have to compensate their imports and these free showings aren't providing any gate or pot of gold revenue. If I was team management, I would ban them from the rink. Am I missing something here?

One if the best questions posted on this forum. I'll take a shot at answering this: -you mentioned it already, it allows the communities to follow their teams + die hard senior hockey fans from the comforts of their home rather than a multi hour drive on a Sunday (ie: Kenaston to Redvers ~4h 15m, Theodore to Carnduff ~3h 20m), it would be a tough ask to refuse volunteers who chose to live streaming -the vast majority of local supporters + surrounding communities who enjoy senior hockey and support their communities will go to the arena to watch, watching a live stream is great and all but you can never replicate the atmosphere that a packed arena provides...in looking in on a few of the live streams, the attendence looked great and wishing I was there in person rather than in my house -I don't believe teams rely on gates as much as perhaps in the past...the vast majority of senior teams have fund raisers, sponsors and locals in the community to keep the teams running which pays imports, sticks, gas, etc. The gates come in handy to pay refs plus boost 50/50 sales. Since you were at two SHA semi-finals Sunday and best qualified to answer, do you believe another 50, 100, 100+ would have shown up if no live streaming?

Shout out CRUSHER you give the best unbiased write ups on this forum. I attended 3 prov games this weekend. Rinks were full big 5050s nothing wrong with live streaming. Good for distant fans and opposing teams. To put in perspective Sunday there was 3 prov south finals in 40 squared miles in the south east I believe that dropped attendance in each rink.

Thanks RR11 and Guest. Impossible to know the crowd effect. And Guest, you are correct, 3 games within 40 miles on one day is a lot. We will have to see what next weekend brings. Redvers is away to Kenaston for both 2 and 3, if needed. Carlyle and Carnduff should have home games as they both don't get home ice advantage in the finals. Let's analyze the crowds next week. Hopefully Carnduff and Carlyle don't play a home game at the same time of the same day.

If the game was on Saturday, I would’ve jumped on a bus to Redvers. There I would’ve spent $10-$15 on the gate, $20 on 50/50, eaten a burger or 2, and had a few cold ones in the lounge. Instead it was on a Sunday, where most people work the following day. It’s tough to commit to a 5hr bus trip when you have to work the next day. Same with Kenaston playing Langenburg on a holiday Monday. I get it’s tough to schedule provincial games as well as league playoffs, but it’s the reality. Shout out to Travis at TL media, who makes the games easy to watch online. Even when you have to parent 2 kids lol

Tough to say how much it really is affecting attendance. I know myself I don’t mind driving 2-3 hours if I have nothing better to do to catch a game I want to see, and if it’s any closer and I find someone go with I’m going no question, I ain’t waiting around to see if one of these streaming platforms is doing the games I want to go to. I like that they’re doing it because anywhere over 3 hours I’m rarely jumping in a vehicle to go watch unless it’s maybe a final, now nothing against these guys streaming I find TL media very entertaining actually, but these are very amateur setups. The stream quality will never be enough for me to follow the game as close as I would in person, if I don’t know the teams well it’s hard to tell who’s who out there sometimes without really focusing, I nodded off once during both games yesterday lol. If it ever gets to the point where a legit crew comes in with a higher quality video and maybe better commentary then I think we have an issue starting to grow. For me if there’s multiple games in the same area that catch my interest sometimes a higher 50/50 guarantee may even sway my decision where I go. But in my opinion if there’s anyone within 30 min to an hour from the game and they’re choosing the stream over going, I don’t think they’ve ever been out watching many games over the years as is and probably not hurting the attendance that much.

I would agree, i live just outside of Saskatoon and it was nice to be able to stream these games. I can't believe that it would impact people going to the rink to watch, i know that it wouldn't for me.... game is so much better in person.
I'm betting that having 2 games going on in the southeast would have way more of an impact. And for the games that are to far to drive to i'd be glad to shell out 5-10 bucks for access to a live stream. i think its great that senior hockey is getting this much coverage!

Now a days its getting harder and harder for certain towns to keep their rinks going. With few minor hockey teams more towns combine to make a team. I don't think this is going to help. Guest you said it. You pay to get in 50/50 something to eat and maybe a few pops in the lounge. It's a trickle down affecting not just senior team but the rink as a whole.

They could almost have a regional blackout as they do for NHL games but that’s also probably hard to do. You should almost have to pay to watch per game with the majority of the cash going towards the team streaming. Im not to sure of how the whole thing works. But it’s definitely Hard to keep teams going now a days.

i think a couple rinks do have some kind of blackout etc--see kerrobert and kindersley...dont know if you have to contact the town office to get the code ,,,and in doing so you have to prove you live outside of the area ?? maybe someone who follows kindersley will answer...i know kerrobert wont as do they have internet ? lol lol

So here’s why I stream.
Mainly, we have an older population that love the Buffalos, but really shouldn’t be driving 3 hours away or in the dark. This way, these fans get to watch the game, as well as people that just can’t make it because of vacation/way too far away/work/prior commitment.
I always ask the manager of the opposing team for permission first, and now I can offer to play advertisements in stream for either team. The senior teams can send in the links, and I’ll put the videos in during the intermissions. I make nothing, enjoying a senior hockey game is good enough. This way, the senior teams can make something extra during a stream. It’s not a lot, but it’s better than nothing.
I really don’t want to have to charge fans to watch a game, as who knows who might be able to watch, and catch how great of a game senior hockey is in Sask. The other reason is for what happened in game 2 this weekend. Sometimes video doesn’t work right, and while it might be dissapointing, at least no one is out anything (wasn’t many ads this weekend)
Thanks.
