I thought we could have a little fun with this.
I remember when the longest road trip we had was about 150 km away.

The rink was packed, even on week days games. 300-400 all the time back when there wasn't much else to do I guess.
Also when there was a team every 20 miles each way.

No plexi-glass…..and you’d hang over the boards and pound on them when your team scored! Had to really watch for flying pucks or you’d lose your chicklets. Also, if you were lucky enough to be on the shovel crew to clean the ice between periods you got into the games for free.

Playing 40+ games a year was normal between pre season, regular season, playoffs and provincials. 2 games per weekend no matter what. Nobody gone on holidays or missing for any stupid reasons. Ahhhh the good old days….

Most leagues had teams that were 95% local players from that town. The players played for pride in their town and beers after the game and not a pay cheque.

Then all of their kids moved away from home and most never came back. Would be great to see every small town with a team again but even today lots of "locals" are commuting from the cities for games so its not going to get much better i'm afraid.

-handful of guys would have a smoke in between periods -visors were optional -1 ref, 2 linesman system -leagues would have all-star games with beer in the dressing room in between periods

Games over Christmas break . Usually biggest crowds of the year other than provincials . House parties after the bar and then going to breakfast after a night of celebrating the win.

some great memories posted above...the leroy referee crew acting like the refs on stampede wresting...so biased and it was comical some of the calls they made and didnt call when you know they saw.......and what about the experiment into cooperalls for a few years

Old cold rinks with natural ice but tons of character.

I thought Craik was the last rink without glass. Any other towns out there?
