The divisions are based on local talent plus imports. I would argue that the D winner would give the A winner a good battle 8 out of 10 times. There is alot of good talent from smaller rural centres. If a team can be built with locals, talent within the radius, and imports that don't break the bank, it only helps the local rink. At least until the money runs out. Rural communities are getting smaller, and former U18 leagues now combine just to make 1 or 2 teams - to keep senior alive and of good quality, some expenses will happen. As long as they stay within the rules, I'm fine with it, but maybe its time to review the rules considering the change in SK demographics. And no, there are not any correct answers.

Kenaston wins 5-2 and moves on to the D finals. They won D in 2002, 2012 and it’s 2022, hmmmm.

Good game. Edam came to play but Kenastons depth got it done. Game was fast and had lots of hard hits.

So what if Kenaston has gone out and spent money on bringing guys in. Good for them. I’ve looked at their roster and I can’t find anything wrong with it. Would be great to see a Kenaston / Craik final. Technically there’s no rules about how much money you can spend, but it takes away from an even playing field for all teams participating. And isn’t that the whole purpose of having A,B,C and D divisions? To create an even playing field? And yes I know every team has the option to spend more to make it even, but every team may not have the resources to raise equal funds. And now it’s no longer become what town has a better hockey team. It’s about team can afford the best players. It is what it is. I don’t see it ever changing, but I will always always root for the team that spends the least and plays with the most locals.

Teams with only locals can’t enter a team in D because they will get beat 10-0

Back in the day teams didn’t spend money to win D provincials. That’s my biggest issue with teams like Kenaston. You wanna have big payrolls and go win A then I have no issue and it makes A exciting for fans. But it’s such a slap in the face for small towns trying to scrape a team together for D with locals not even playing senior anymore and then have to match up against teams with huge payrolls. Stop being cowards and go for the bigger divisions. So you’d prefer them to cut their locals that make up the rest of the team and pick up more players just to A? That goes over great. Also tons of teams in D pay!

Also tons of teams in D pay! Foam Lake (D) and Drake (A) have comparable payrolls. Just using them as an example but a (D) team like Loreburn doesn’t have Kohl Bauml, Alex/Jessie Forsberg and Adam Evanoff without giving them some money. It’s kind of dumb what senior hockey is becoming but if teams want to compete and win they have to pay. Kenaston has a population of 282. Macklin is over 1,400. 5x the population and they are both D. So in theory without adding players from other teams Macklin has 5x the talent of Kenaston. Quit complaining because they are good!

Where was all this complaining when Kyle won 3 titles with a big payroll? LL/Dinsmore also spent lots of money and came up short like 5 years in a row so its far from a guarantee. I do agree it has gotten a bit out of hand in the last 10-15 years though.

Don’t matter what letter you want to play in it’s going to take 2 solid lines and a goaltender that can steal you a game or two if your going to say “winner winner chicken dinner” at the end of it all. Weather you have to pay or not that’s your choice but spend the money and go deep the gates and 50/50 and all other revenues are up to
