All you need to do is read rule 4.03.02 in the Hockey Sask Handbook. There is no issue. I am sure Foam Lake would you went through the proper channels to be able to use Beckett. Those guys pay out way to much $$ to players to lose a series on something like a ineligible player. Doesn’t your goaltender have to be injured in order to take advantage of this loophole? I believe Ochitwa has been on the bench as the backup against central butte. Wapple has been hurt and out for months (well before provincial rosters were due) meaning they had plenty of time to find a replacement. I’m sure they did get SHA approval but it still really doesn’t pass the smell test for me. I’m guessing this was their plan ever since Wapple went down.

As I stated that is how I understood the rule as well. But with social media and google, etc, we all live under a different microscope. So that being said I’m quite certain they were given permission to start him. Their executive are frequent forum users and they are still using Beckett. That tells me they know they can.

Not to mention Foam Lake is playing with an extra import due to this. If ochitwa is healthy he should have to play otherwise teams will/should do this every year if their starter gets injured. And again it’s not like wapple went down in a provincial game where they had no time to replace him

I don’t know. But I know that the emergency goalie isn’t considered an import.

The rule is the emergency goalie cannot play. If the original goalie was on the bench I'd be losing it if I was Butte.

The rule is the emergency goalie cannot play. If the original goalie was on the bench I'd be losing it if I was Butte. Maybe they changed the rule due to previous confusion. Years ago Southey got permission from SHA to use Applegate (former Foam Lake goalie) and they used him against Avonlea. Then Avonlea protested and they had to replay the series with the other tender. Southey won both series in that case. That’s just one example, it’s happened frequent enough to be an issue. In the old days the backup used to have a mysterious ailment necessitating the emergency goalies usage.

Foam Lake would have won game 2 with Ochitwa in the crease.

SHA approved it and all teams were notified. He was approved to be the starter? Or approved to be added to the roster?

SHA approved it and all teams were notified. Approved picking up an emergency goalie or approved to use him as a starter? Wording is important.

SHA approved it and all teams were notified. What was Foam Lakes argument? “The only goalie we signed sucks so we’re going to pick up the best guy available and play him while our guy sits on the bench”. I’m not a fan of either team but it makes zero sense this is allowed

Foam Lake must be adding an emergency goalie because of Wapple’s injury. Wapple’s injury happened months prior to provincials starting. Doesn’t the injury have to happen during provincial play to allow for the “emergency” status to kick in?

Doesn’t the injury have to happen during provincial play to allow for the “emergency” status to kick in? That is true but was likely signed with the hope/belief he would be back. Foam Lake wants nothing more than to have Wapple in the crease.
