No team has taken better advantage of having an elite player come home to play than Kenaston. The year before McVeigh finished with the Huskies they add twoHuskies. Yakabowski being from Dalmeny is just icing on the cake. Then the next year they add Tkatch and Gay. Tkatch is from Prudhomme which is within the 120Km limit. They had two naturalized imports in place when they stated their run. One being Bembridge who lived there until he was like 12 and is related to half the team. They clearly had a plan and worked it to perfection. Tkatch and Yakubowski could had gone to a bunch of teams but must have prioritized playing with their buddies and be close to the city. Kenaston has almost no minor hockey left and has 7 other senior teams within an 80km radius battling for bodies. What was their alternative? Their window is closing because they don’t have a feeder system. Their executive clearly raises more money than most and they get a deal on players. Look at their program and their sponsorship. No one seems to care that much of Davidson’s team is from Clavet/Allan area. What’s the difference other than the quality of the players? well said... Kenaston recognized their opportunity and ran with it. Having McVeigh come home was key. the connection to the huskies is a huge advantage... and you see it again this year with Collins heading there. I know there were at least 3 teams in the LLHL throwing big money at collins but in the end he took less money to play with buddies. honestly i bet the management for kenaston doesn't have to do any recruiting as the guys all talk to each other. It does make it tough on teams that don't have a high end local or 2 to build around.
