Team I played on in the 2000's, one night my dad was talking to the manager and he casually asked him how much it would cost that season to run the team. He estimated at the time around $60K (3 imports + 2 exeptions paid, no locals paid, gas money handed out). I believe imports + exeptions total per game would have been $600-800/game.

So roughly $25,000 on imports. So are you saying they needed $35,000 for sticks, mileage, refs, possibly ice rental? Seems like a lot. Sticks and Mileage are often just a clever way of claiming to pay less or nothing on imports. But if that’s accurate then it’s not surprising to see $75,000 plus now. |

I know some teams in the twin rivers operate on very small budgets, around 10k or less. but that's no paid imports, no sticks n gas. Pretty much just paying for refs and ice. Obviously, the quality of hockey is far less but still keeps the rink going and is good for the community.

Quality of hockey is definitely reflected by the amount paid out for sure, but thats what that league is set up for... and the league rules are as such to keep it affordable and allow teams to survive. |

Senior hockey is Sportsnet or ehollywood without the Sportsnet money |

Wheatland has tried to run a league that did not allow payment to players but off course some teams found a way around it. Some teams just claimed heavy sticks and mileage. But the rule was apparently never written into their constitution. Eventually weaker teams that would not spend either left the league or folded. While the heavy spenders ended up in the LLHL or went broke and folded as well. I will agree that the quality of hockey in the low spending leagues is generally not as good, but I love the heart they show.
Also didn’t Cabri a few years back spend around 10 to 15K on a player that left before playoffs? That shit just makes me laugh.
