Had the privilege of watching Carnduff, Redvers, Oxbow and Moosomin on the weekend. The Rockets are arguably the best of the bunch and are in first place. Carnduff is over their Xmas suspension nightmare and appear to be clicking. They looked strong destroying a depleted Cougar lineup Saturday. The Moosomin at Oxbow game, also on Saturday, was simply a classic and was a battle for second place. Moosomin dressed 17 skaters, Oxbow 18. Furious action with the winning 5-4 goal scored by the Rangers with less than three to play. It was a frenzy at the end with Moosomin taking a late penalty and the Huskies pulling their goalie, alas to no avail.
These top four should meet in the best of five semis with only Bienfait and Carlyle having an outside chance at a best-of-three quarterfinal upset. Kopeck and Bud Holloway are the top two players in the league but I would lean towards Buddy as MVP. Kopeck has a stronger supporting cast with the three Millers back in the Rocket lineup this year. A great two months of hockey coming our way.

Redvers is definitely the team to beat. Scoring depth toughness and by far the best defence in the league with the gaudets, toms, small child If the lose it will be because they get outplayed in goal
Moosomin has a great top line and decent depth scoring, solid goaltending but their best d man might be the old guy so the are a little thin on the back end
Oxbow is the hardest working team in the league they have good team speed 2 good scoring lines and no glaring weaknesses. Tender isn’t great but the puck usually seems to hit him. Have struggled a little down the stretch so we will see
Carnduff hasn’t been as dominant this year as in the past but they can roll 3 good scoring lines and have a solid defence and goaltending. A veteran team that probably realizes the regular season means very little. Would be shocked if they don’t make some noise in the playoffs
Bienfeit would be a big long shot but they always play well at home holt boys can score. Key for them will be getting everyone to show up for every game in the playoffs if they want to steal a round
Carlyle has been very inconsistent great top end forwards led by Johnstone but don’t think they can overcome the loss of Deck on an already slim d core. If the stars alaign they could surprise in a short first round series

Weird season in the Big Six Hockey League. Everyone played 20 games, two against each other. The top four teams, Redvers, Oxbow, Moosomin, and Carnduff, went 66-13-1. The Rockets are on a 19 game winning streak. The next four teams, whom they play in the big of three quarterfinals, went, 36-41-3. The bottom three were 8-51-1.
The only possible upset is Bienfait-Carnduff. The Coalers match up well and both teams do not like each other. If Midale could have played Tayler Thompson more, the Mustangs would have won a lot more games. He absolutely shredded the porous defence of Carlyle on Saturday night. Eight points in a 10-2 thrashing.

Just a quick update on the best of three quarterfinals. We will start new threads when the semi-final matches are set. Midale was swept two straight by the Redvers Rockets last nite. Moosomin defeated Carlyle 6-1 last Wednesday and 6-5 tonight. The Cougars Big Six season is done.
Three interesting tidbits.
Oxbow beat Redvers in the first game of the season way back in November. The Rockets have now won 21 in a row including their two game playoff sweep of Midale.
In the two playoff games, Carlyle held Bud Holloway to no goals and only 2 or 3 assists.
Moosomin is guaranteed to not meet Redvers until the Big Six finals. Redvers finished first, Moosomin third.
In the other best of three quarterfinals, Oxbow and Yellow Grass play game one Wednesday and games two and three on the weekend. Carnduff leads Bienfait 1-0 and plays in Bienfait Tuesday and in needed Carnduff on Thursday.

Talked to both a Carnduff source and an Oxbow source this morning. 4-4 after regulation and from both sources Carnduff dominated the first 10 minute overtime but couldn't find the back of the net. Bienfait scored on a lovely deflection in the second overtime to win. From the Big six game sheet, both teams dressed full rosters, and especially for the Coalers that does't happen very often. Both teams are more than pumped up for Thursday night. Should be a dandy!

Big upset indeed. Coalers 6- Carnduff 4. The Red Devils cannot repeat as Big Six Hockey League Champions. Bienfait wins best of 3 two games to one. Carnduff dressed 18 and 2, Bienfait 17 and 2.
Period scores were 3-2 Carnduff and 5-4 Bienfait. Carnduff scored the first three of the game and then ran into penalty trouble. Referees Golden and Klassen doled out 39 minutes to the Red Devils and only 6 to Bienfait. Barrett Dumaine got 2 for checking to the head and a 10 minute misconduct. Nico Anderson 5 minute for boarding in the third and 10 to boot. Bienfait 3 for 7 on the power play, Carnduff 0 for 2. It was 5-4 Late with Bienfait scoring an emptier netter. Zack Miller played great in net for Bienfait.
The two Holts had 5 goals in this game. Taysen 2 goals and 1 assist. Keagan Holt the hat trick.
Only Oxbow Yellow Grass quarterfinal to be decided this weekend. Redvers will play either Yellow Grass or Bienfait. Moosomin will play either Bienfait or Oxbow. Best of five semi-finals to start likely next week either Tuesday or Wednesday.
